"nambikkai - hands of hope" was born
in a situation which was seemingly hopeless. The Tsunami
of 26th December 2004 drastically changed the lives of
the people in the costal South India.
Mr. Parameswaran, working with Oil and Natural Gas
Corporation is living in the New Beach Road of
Nagapattinam, the most affected town in the Tsunami. He
went to the beach with all of his three children and
seven of his relatives. Being struck by the terrible
tidal waves, Mr. Parameswaran was carried away for a
long distance by the forceful water and escaped by
holding on to a tree. He went with ten of his dear ones
and returned home empty handed.
For more than 10 years, Mr. Parameswarans family has
been involved in development ministry in a nearby
village called Samanthanpetai. They were doing it in a
silent way with their own resources. They were meeting
the educational needs of 14 children in this village.
Six of these children, died in the Tsunami. The terrible
loss of lives met by Parameswaran in their family and
around them challenged them to invest the rest of their
lives for the development of a wider family.
Parameswarans' have clear hope that their three children
Rakahanya, Karunya, and Kirubasan are safe in the hands
of the Lord Jesus. They believe that, one day they are
going to meet their children in heaven. Parameswaran,
Choodamani couple like to share this blessed hope with
the community around them and to give them their hands
of hope to the people to hold on to God.
As a result of this concern, in February 2005, "nambikkai
- Hands of Hope" was born based on Colossians 1:27, by
which they heard the voice of God, "Christ in you, the
hope of glory"
The logo of "nambikkai" depicts the way in which the
needy and the under privileged are given a hand of hope.
The roaring waves of the sea, at the background remind
us about the devastation caused by the Tsunami.
